R02 Remastered 1/144 HG Duel Gundam Assault Shroud - Part 3

Painting

I spent most of today painting the HG Duel, mostly the Assault Shroud.  It's not 100% yet, I need to put clear green over the eyes, cameras, and scopes.

I had to mix several colors today.  The first was the yellow for various bits on the Assault Shroud and shield; Testors flat yellow with a touch of flat red.  The second was a grey to match the armor of the Assault Shroud that it was already molded in.  For that, I used Testors flat grey, flat sky blue, flat red, and gloss white.  I honestly don't remember the ratio.  For the third color, I wanted a gunmetal that matched the metallic plastic the joints were molded in.  I took the left over grey for the Assault Shroud and added a bit more red and some yellow to make it sort of brownish, then added Gunmetal and Gold until the desired metallic flake look was achieved.  the metallic flake is subtle, much like the plastic.

Painted the black around the eyes, then the camera and the eyes silver.  They get their clear green tomorrow.

Photobucket

Painted the vulcans a custom gun metal color.

Photobucket

Painted the rear head camera silver.  Again, clear green tomorrow.

The torso only needed the base painted, I use the custom gunmetal here as well.

Photobucket

The arms only needed the frame around the shoulder armor.

Here, I'm trying to show the plastic color and the paint color.  Not a perfect match.  I probably could have added more gold and gotten it just right, but I'm happy with it.

The custom gunmetal was added into the vents on the hip block.

Photobucket

Yellow on the edges of the vents.  Custom gunmetal on the inside of the vents.

Photobucket

I had to paint the outside of the molded on thrusters for the backpack.

Photobucket

Back of the thigh, thrusters on the foot, and the vent on the foot armor all got the Gunmetal.

Photobucket

The shield got the same sort of treatment as the Strike's.  Gunmetal inside, custom yellow and a slightly grey white for the top section on the blue.  The white on this Duel is close to that of the old 90's Wing kits.

Photobucket

The gun halves got silver on the scope.

Photobucket

The Assault Shroud!

Photobucket

Silver for the targeting sensor.

This fin piece was molded in a dark grey, it would have been easier had it been molded with the other Assault Shroud armor because that's the color it should be.  I painted the thrusters yellow on the inside and the gunmetal in the center.

A very dark grey Gundam Marker was used for the shoulder area and then custom yellow for the center chest piece.

PhotobucketPhotobucket

Yellow and gunmetal all over!

Photobucket

These two parts were also molded in the dark grey and needed to be the light grey...

Shoulder block for the left arm.

So, for those wondering or those who notice and will say something:  yes, some edges of paint are rough (the green triangle in the last photo for sure).  All of that is easily remedied with panel lining which will be done tomorrow along with the final build and review!

Until Next Time:  Happy Building!
