MG Wing Gundam Part 3

Targeting and Firing.

Okay, yes different series, but still.  The cockpit (targeting) and the Buster Rifle (firing) are the features of the day.  I don't know why I like to paint the cockpit details on MG, I never display them opened, and you can almost never see the details even when the hatch is opened all the way.  I guess it's just satisfaction of knowing it's done.

This is a pretty typical cockpit unit with a panel on either side for displays and various controls switches at the arms of the seat.

I painted the screens bright blue and some of the seat a blue-gray.

Added a few details to the controls with a fine tipped brush.

Pilot figure (originally all white) Heero Yuy all set to go in his... erm... pilot suit?  Sure! Tank top, shorts, gym shoes; it's all you need when you're rocketing out of control in a giant transforming mech, blowing up nuclear powered enemy mechs, entering Earth's atmosphere, and taking a beating from an enemy ace!

I forgot to take a before shot, but the handle and canisters are the original color.  I used a mix of Arctic Blue and Chrome Silver to paint the Buster Rifle.

I Like the way the color turned out for the Buster Rifle.  This is pretty close to the extent of which I painted on this one.  In fact I've been OOBing a lot lately, but my October Model-A-Month project, I knew was going to take a lot out of me.  But those posts are a ways off, yet.

Should be finishing up in the next post.

Until Next Time:  Happy Building!

  2. Gosh it's been so long. I want to say, by the looks of the color, that I started with silver and added a few drops of the arctic blue and gave it a good mix with my brush on the pallet (a tiny disposable plastic cup) until I got the color I wanted. then thinned it down (which may appear to dilute the color but it didn't) and hand brushed it on.

  5. until recently I never sealed my kits! On the HD color versions of the MG Zeta 2.0 kits, I used Boyd or Testors gloss coat in a jar. I thinned it down a little with enamel thinner and brushed it on by hand over the decals. The HD kits were already glossy, so it worked fine for those kits. For my more recent work on the No Grade 00 Raiser, I top coated it with Krylon flat top coat in a spray can and it looks pretty cool.
